So, Squee's a few days late on seeing this, but still, Squee's excited.

Here's to hoping Disney can get things right again with traditional animation. With writer/directors from Aladdin & Little Mermaid, Squee thinks the prospects look good. |

I was excited when I heard about this one... I missed their 2D animations!
It looks like a really cute story too. What they've done with the original, that is. _________________ Keeper of Nanashi's Vambraces and the Amethyst Trees.

It's still computer animation, just traced and cell-shaded to look like hand-drawing. _________________ ...In accordance with the prophesy.

Sort of like what they did for the ballroom sequence in Beauty and the Beast?
As for the movie...<3 I think it will be fun. _________________ Lithrath=Lisa according to Asa, though I respond to Lithy as well

Umm... I'm afraid that I beg to differ. The background? Maybe. The characters? No way.
I quoth Wikipedia for questionable backup on this: "It will be the first traditionally animated (2-D) feature film in Disney's animated features canon since 2004's Home on the Range."

What do you guys think about the controversy where Tiana was originally going to be a chambermaid? They changed it because there were complaints that it would reinforce racial stereotypes. _________________ I love children...but I could never eat a whole one.

I totally see where they're coming from. Enforcing stereotypes is something I'm currently working against at my uni, and I'm currently active in several groups that promote diversity in every form.
I also feel like in order to promote the degeneration of racial stereotypes, they need to be able to place ANYBODY from ANY race in ANY situation. So what if Tiana was a chambermaid? Make her coworkers white and Asian, serving a Hispanic woman. Tiana was going to overcome her chambermaid status anyways, wasn't she? If so, then I think there would have been less of a problem.
But at the same time, I also understand where there would have been an outcry against placing a black woman in a servant role. There's just too much history to not try and find a deeper meaning--even if a deeper meaning doesn't necessarily exist. _________________ Keeper of Zaebos' and Jormand's powers.

It's a very fine line where the avoidance of a stereotype becomes a stereotype itself... _________________

I wonder whether people advocating such a position appreciate the irony of it. In refusing to make main characters disadvantaged we simply enforce the view that chambermaids are some manner of worthless scum that we couldn’t dare mentioning someone as because it’s such a great insult, forever ensuring that the stereotype will exist. You don't remove steriotipes by avoiding them. _________________ Never forget,
