At least, I would guess that's why there's one now. |
But that was suggested at one point to, and shot down.... |

As the comic progresses, it changes and evolves. The same can be said for the decision to not have a Facebook. IIRC, we had decided not to do a Facebook page because it would involve either making a group or creating a fake profile.
A fake profile was against Facebook rules, so that was out. Many companies were doing it at the time, and the plus side to this was that updates could be seen on news feeds.
The second option, at the time, was creating a group. The group would have been under Yates' name, and she wasn't sure she wanted random people trying to friend her. As much as she loves her fans, this would have let anybody who read the comic into her personal life. At the time, Earthsong was still looking for publishers after Seven Seas. In addition, group posts weren't accessible from the news feed - so what was the point? We already had the forum.
Facebook realized that companies were creating profiles, but it also let companies into their fans' personal lives - which posed a risk to consumers' personal information. What it did was create fan pages - pages that allowed companies to update a page that appeared on news feeds without jeopardizing personal information.
So Earthsong at the time had a need that Facebook couldn't fulfill. When Facebook changed, we revisited the topic and found that a fan page was what we had wanted.
I hope that answers your question! _________________ Keeper of Zaebos' and Jormand's powers.
