Basically, I'm at the end of my tether - my laptop refuses to SWITCH OFF. It keeps BlueScreen-ing every time I switch off, after 15 minutes or so, and starting itself back up again. When it does restart and comes back to my desktop, a message pops up warning me of a "BlueScreen Event" that has just occured and do I want to check what happened. I've clicked for the computer to investigate, but it just disappears.

Currently, I'm letting my computer run a scan, but I've no clue of what else to do. I've already done 3 hard resets, and I'm exhausted as it's nearly 3 in the morning here.

Do any of the more computery types have suggestions as to what I can do?

I don't really have any technical suggestions, no, but something similar happened to my computer once. I was able to start it up in Safe mode, which removes any automatic updates your computer has received in the past 24 hours or so. Honestly, I can't really remember what I did after that, just that the problem was an automatic update that had occurred overnight and gone haywire somehow.
So I guess try starting in safe mode--which your computer should give you the option of doing if it's shut down improperly. I think Safe mode offers a help bubble as well that could probably help narrow things down.

Have you tried hard rebooting it? Hold down the power button without bothering to do anything else. That should at least offer you the option for safe mode. Other than that... There are far more qualified people than myself around here who can probably offer you real solutions.

I did hard reboot about 3 or 4 times. In the end, I attempted system restore to 48 hours before the event started to occur. The system restore apparently failed, but I've been able to switch my computer on and off now a couple of times, so it appears to be okay now.
