Science Fiction Paranoia:

A subgenre of science fiction set in a not too distant future dominated by an all powerful organisation (possibly a secret one). Although this describes many sci-fi novels, sci-fi paranoia specifically involves the books which give you that warm fuzzy paranoid feeling after finishing it and realising how realistic it all seemed or how modern society is startlingly close to the society depicted in the book.

Examples:

The Traveller by John Twelve Hawks: Book one of the Fourth Realm trilogy.

A secret organisation called the Tabula Rasa monitor everyone through the use of CCTV and secret cameras, their goal is to wipe out the ‘Travellers’ who have the ability to enter other worlds and are able to undo the work of the Tabula Rasa. The book centres around two brothers who are very possibly the last Travellers left and the Harlequin, Maya who attempts to protect them.

The Dark River by John Twelve Hawks: Book two of the Fourth Realm trilogy.
Continues the story of Maya attempting to protect the last remaining Travellers from the Tabula Rasa and each other.

1984 (Do I really need to write a summary of this?)

A government gone paranoid watches and controls every aspect of a person’s life and has rewritten history to maintain order and control over the common populace. Anyone who stands out is quickly monitored and unpleasant things may happen to them.
