It's happened before on occasion, when our writers have gotten caught up in real life occurences, or just plain struggled to finish their pieces.
At the end of the day, the point of these Writer Groups is to encourage one another to develop our own writing skills and to see who fufills the task perimeters and writes them well. I don't think it's too helpful in developing fellow writers if we're allowed to vote for ourselves.

Have 3-way ties ever happened before...? O_o
Just dropping this note before I run (literally) to class, we have a 3-way tie.. Is there policy for tie-breakers, normally?

Back from class for 5-10 mins, and figured I'd update before I run off to another class. Oi. At least I got time for lunch today..
One of our kindly forum mods (and one who holds a great deal of my respect) volunteered to vote in the tiebreaker.
As such, I pronounce Lope the winner of our contest!!!

I was actually very impressed by everybody's entries. All three of you took slightly different approaches to the same idea: unity for survival. The quality of work from all three of you was superb, and I hope I speak for everyone when I say that reading these was an enjoyable experience. If you ever turn these into longer stories, I want to know so I can read more. 
I'm not sure when WG5 will open. Over the weekend, maybe. I've got to come up with an idea for subject matter.

Yay! 
Thanks to my myterious benefector.
Incidentially, when it became clear that there would only be three stories to vote between, the thought already occured to me: "Wouldn't it be wierd, if each of us ended up with 1 vote?" Kinda prophetic, isn't it? 
Also, Kudos to my fellow competitors. There were three great stories in this contest, so the previous tie was kind of appropriate.
