Exactly. That's perfectly clear.
I think that maybe we've got some fundamentally different assumptions about the stone, which is not too surprising, since we've had very little description of the stone itself. We don't know its color, its shape, how it's stored, whether it has a hole for stringing, whether it's set in metal like a jewelry stone, or how exactly it's being carried.
I have been assuming that the stone is: loose, does not have a hole, is not mounted as jewelry, and is stored somewhere in Jagger's gear, perhaps stored in a small box lined with soft fabric for safekeeping.
We also don't know very much about how Jagger perceives the resonance the stone emits. I have been assuming that because the signal is faint, Jagger will need to examine it closely to get an accurate impression of the current level of resonance.
Therefore, what Ailurin wants Jagger to do is to:
1) take the semaphore stone out of his bag, and
2) study it to find out the current "temperature."
Without doing that Jagger will have no way to tell whether we're "warmer" or "colder" once we've moved.
Have I made an incorrect assumption somewhere along the line? If so, please say so, because I suspect that mismatched assumptions are at the root of all this.

This is the link Teh Lady gave me; I thought she had it in one of the threads, but maybe not.
I know I have at least suggested, (but I might not have stated) that the stone is on a necklace. Jagger's been wearing it the whole time; the constant noise is part of why he's on edge.

Okay, I must have missed that. I'll edit my last post accordingly.
It might be a good idea to occasionally describe Jagger consulting the crystal, or interacting with it in some sort of overt way. Say, clasping it and closing his eyes to sense eddies in the resonance. Or, since you say the resonance is bothering him, perhaps taking it off and holding it away from him for a while. Or something. Part of what let my assumptions remain incorrect is that the crystal never appeared in the description; it was just referred to in conversation.
