Weird glitch...

Shallan's been bugging me to let her join the forum, but she doesn't want to use her OWN email address, because she never gets on it. Therefore, I let her use one of MY email addresses, because there are two; my personal one, and business. I let her create and account using my business address. SO - when I log in as my user name, horsey...that works. But whenever I log out, (horsey, by the way) my user name stays.

I would like to connect this unfortunate mishap somehow to Shallan, but me being the computer retard I am, I just can't make it tie. Hmm. Anyone know what's going on?

I think it has to do with cookies (the small text files the browser makes for sessions on a web page).

First off, are you using Firefox or Internet Explorer? I'm almost sure it's IE, because Firefox by default shouldn't run into that problem. Let me know, though, and we'll get it fixed. I used to run tech support, lol!

I'm using Firefox, and this occasionally (rarely) happens to me too.

Can you still log in again while the Forum lists you as online after logging out?

In my experience, this problem (if it is a problem at all) could always be solved by powernig down the computer. I'm not sure if a simple reboot is sufficient, too.

Well, evidently the glitch has been resolved long enough for Shallan to register... what was the cause? Or did you just temporarily sashay around it by using separate browsers?

I think what Ponce was trying to imply was that Shallan signing on (via Ponce's Email address) was the cause of the glitch...

A causality I find rather improbable.

I usually have to log out twice to make my username vanish. Got around it by just reopening the page after closing it and logging out a second time rather than rebooting the computer. Think it's probably something in phpBB.

Whew! Thanks everyone, but I think it has resolved itself. I really have no idea what happened.

Shallan wasn't using my active address; I don't believe she would even be able to register using MY address. she used the business one.

I run Internet Explorer.

Just a cookie problem. Something must be misconfigured here with the cookies, they're not being removed when you log out. Which is a technical problem with phpbb, not the browser. You can always clear your cookies if something like that happens on any website.

A related issue for me is that when I log in, sometimes it doesn't register - and then when I do it again and it does register, all the posts are cleared as if they're read. So according to the site, I logged in twice, but it refused to acknowledge me when I did it the first time.

This happened in all the browsers I've used, but far more with IE.
