I'm distantly related to John Adams, and likewise Sam Adams, though it's a more direct descent from John Adams. My aunt's big into geneaology and stuff like that.
I'm German, Irish, Welsh, and all American baby!
XD I really love just thinking of my self as an Earthling though. Like I'll go to the art museum, and walk through the global art exhibits, and I'll just have these moments where I stop thinking of it as Chinese or Egyptian or whatever history, and I start thinking of it as my history, as everyone's history as a human being. As a RACE we're so amazing, you know?
I think largely, this comes from being raised on a steady diet of Star Trek. _________________ If you're reading this, you haven't quite made it to the next post. |

I wish I didn't look so Irish.
Pale skin, red-brown hair, dark grey eyes, and so tiny I look like a breeze could knock me over! Not a good frame for a horsewoman. Especially since I'm skinny. I've been trying to bulk up, but I still weigh less than 115. Darn.
My aunt raised us on a steady diet of 'the Fey.' Since we lived in Ireland for a period of years, we got pretty superstitious. Aunt Suzanne led us to believe we were children of the Fey.
I looked up the word 'fey' and discovered it meant 'the doomed.'
Oh crap!
Anyway, for a while I could almost believe I had 'fey' ancestors. Like I've mentioned before, I'm so bloody angular! Curse! High cheekbones, pointy chin...*sigh* _________________ Fall down seven times, get up eight. --Japanese Proverb

Interesting topic. I don't think I have much to talk about though. I don't really know anything about my family beyond my grandparents generation, of which all members were firmly rooted in northwoods Minnesota, and have only the vaguest sense that one side was mostly Norwegian, and the other was at least partially German. The name comes from the German side, and is merely a reference to one of the zillion provinces that the area used to be made out of.
Unfortunately the name is completely non-indicative of ancestry. My father (who I seem to take after far more than the other side) was adopted, and the subject literally NEVER comes up. I've heard it mentioned maybe two or three times in my life (usually at doctors, when I need to be reminded that that half isn't actually part of my family history), and I have no real intention to break the silence. It doesn't change any of the family relations, but it means that the most important pieces of ancestry will probably be a total mystery forever.
I've got brown hair and dull blue eyes. Sounds about as generic as things could be. Could have roots anywhere in Europe. |

Well, now. There are more blue-eyed / grey- eyed people with brown hair than I thought possible.
Quick poll- say Aye if that's you^.

Generally Aye, but I have been told that my eyes are green and blue and grey and hazel. Also my hair has been described as blonde and brown so I 'unno!
On the topic of family crests, I have three. Kinda. The one for my actual surname is a pelican piercing its own breast to feed its young (cheerful!), but I also have the blood of two Scottish clans in my veins! The Scott crest (from my gran) is a stag and the motto is "Amo". Simply "Love". The Drummond crest (from my granddad) is an eagle and the motto is "Gang warily", meaning "Go carefully".
As for my genealogy, I'm a bit of a mongrel. Mostly English, with Polish, Irish (a touch) and Scottish (lowlands). My Gran (Scott) was born in America, my Dad was born in Zambia. All the exciting stuff that we can find is on my Dad's side, since we can't find much beyond my Mum's mum on her side. _________________ He who does not eat cheese will go mad. ~ French proverb.

I was gonna reply earlier and things over here in real life exploded! :O Not fun.
I have five family crests. I'm not going to bother linking every damn one. haha. Those would be McGraw, O'Donahue, Goodpasture, Leach, Hansen (danish), and Hunt.
Wait thats six. My bad. The only two that actually matters is Hansen and Hunt. I'm largely Irish and Danish with English, Norweigian, and French blood on the side. Yup, your average american mutt. _________________ Keeper of Gwendowlyn's red hair.

Aye.
My family crest has a plate armor helmet on it, and it's blue! That's kinda cool. My adoptive family line is extremely English, but with some Dutch, German and Basque mixed in. By blood I know that I'm half English-Irish and a quarter of French, Dutch, Spanish, and Navajo Indian each.
As for family history, my parents enjoy genealogy to the max, so there's a lot of info. My parents are actually distant cousins-the family split in the 1700's in Europe and came back together. The earliest ancestor they've been able to find so far was a scholar in Oxford somewhere around 1100 AD.
My family is also extensively involved in Mormon/LDS history. The first complete family to convert to Mormonism after Joseph Smith's own family was the family of Joseph Knight, Sr. Seven generations later, here I am. Through various lines I'm related to a lot of LDS figures. You'd have to be pretty involved in the genre to recognize most of their names, though.
Other than that, not much to say. One of my second cousins by marriage wrote The Drowsy Chaperon if anyone's seen that. _________________ I love children...but I could never eat a whole one.

God, I look so Italian!
I'm actually more German than Italian, but the brown-brown-olive must trump everything else in me...
lets see,
Irish, And it's funny, cause I always wished for red hair, fair skin, light eyes and freckles...
Polish, Yes, I eat kielbasa with pierogies
French, Je parle petit français...(at least that's What I think I'm supposed to type it as...)
ITALIAN! And I can't stop eating! Or cooking, or acting rather Italian....
German, I don't speak german, but I do know the word for "hospital"
There is some dispute on whether a small portion of our blood is Native American or black.
But it should be black, I think,
There are far too many white people here...
And I love soul food! (I don't think it would matter if I was or wasn't, I'd still want to be more...) _________________ Hoffman icon courtesy of my very good friend, Isaymakebelieve, on LJ, check her out! http://community.livejournal.com/isaymakebelieve/

Red hair and eyes that can't decide if they're blue or gray. I would say this is because I'm part Scottish, but it's not, since that strain comes from my mom's side, which is predominately French. Go figure. _________________ Keeper of Gaia and all the books on Earthsong
