... is purrrrty. A tad inflexible, though. I often browse with the text size bumped up two notches, because I'm near-sighted. In this case, that means that the background image starts repeating in weird ways rather than the box expanding downwards to accommodate the increased size of the content.

That's an "edge case" though. It'll work well enough for most people. And it is definitely pretty to look at!

Whoa, you're right! o_0 That could be a problem if the Lady writes a long blog.

The redesign is wonderful, particularly the character page. :heart: (that should turn into a heart once(if?) the extra emoticons come back.) The poses are excellent; Zaebos looks so good!

The forum could do with not being fixed-width - it doesn't spread across my wide screen (shiny new laptop =D) like most do, but that aside, it's niiiice =D

Good to be back.

The site redesign is very nice, my only objection is the lack of Poodle on the characters page. (Speaking of which, Poodle made an appearence in Terinu a few weeks ago, some earthsong fans noticed it, not sure if any of them are forumites though.)

/Edit, um...why no avatars?

I like green. It's a pretty color, in this aspect. Be glad Teh Lady didn't pick chertreuse (sp?) though.

And the only quibble I have is that we have no avatar support. ???

My first reaction was GREEN!

It looks great, though I miss the avatars, since they help me find my posts. I'll have to put cat wiskers in my sig instead... ^__^

Well, let's not rush - maybe the avatar option will be added soon along with more forum categories?

....as a temporary measure, then. I just can't find my posts without some black and white lines otherwise.

It's more clear what they are in the larger picture. ^_^

I guess you really couldn't tell they were wiskers... your guess was good, though, if I remember correctly.

I just got lucky, I think...

Anyhow, I'm enjoying this greenness of the forum. Makes for a nice change, and green's a good color.

Green's my fave colour - plus it matched the new layout a lot better than the old one. It took so long to sift through all the garbage sites out there to find a good free forum template, sheesh.

As for the layout itself, yes, if you've got the text size override on, then it'll screw it up as it's a background image that repeats. Not much to be done about it though!

But I'm glad it was well received for the most part - I got a few complaints about the font, but well... I likes it and it stays! So there!

As for avatars... I didn't know it was turned off. Lemme see what I can do about that.

Actually, there are a couple of things that could be done. The easiest would be just to make the background image not repeat. You've got a line like this:

<table width="935" height="756" border="0" align="center" background="images/layout/layout2008.gif">

If you changed it like this:

<table width="935" height="756" border="0" align="center" background="images/layout/layout2008.gif" style="background-repeat: no-repeat;">

... then the background wouldn't repeat.

A more sophisticated approach would be to split that one image into four parts, and then reassembled them using HTML and CSS.

The first part would consist of the header - the word "Earthsong", the main navigation text, and the fancy curly bits at the edges. The second would consist of the side navigation bar (excluding the edge of the box). The third would consist of a narrow strip maybe 1 to 3 pixels tall for the width of the box, consisting of the two edges of the box and the big tan area in the middle. The last one would consist of the bottom edge of the box and its rounded corners.

Then we'd use HTML and CSS to put them back together. We'd have an HTML structure like this:

Code:
<div id="container">

<div id="header">
<h1>Earthsong</h1>
<ul>
      <li><a href="">Archives</a></li>
      <li><a href="">About</a></li>
      <li><a href="">Characters</a></li>
      <li><a href="">FAQ</a></li>
      <li><a href="">Art</a></li>
      <li><a href="">Forum</a></li>
      <li><a href="">Links</a></li>
</ul>
</div>

<div id-"content">
<p>Blog blog blog blog.</p>
</div>

</div>

We'd use CSS to assign the header image as a background to the header, appearing at the top and not repeating. At the same time, we would "hide" the regular text of the links, and change the size and position so it would look and act just the way it does now.

Next, we'd assign the bottom image as a background to the content area, appearing at the bottom and not repeating. That acts as a "cap" on the bottom. And lastly, we'd assign the little narrow strip as the background image to the container, and let it repeat downwards. The side bar nav would have to be its own unordered list in the content area, which I've omitted for brevity's sake.

That way, when the font size increases, the content area expands, the little strip tiles downward to fill the new space, and the entire box appears to grow smoothly. Ad infinitum.

^_^

What I meant was things I know how to do Wink I like the background no repeat thing though - that's a neat trick. The other stuff... maybe. Not much time for fiddling about though. :S
