This was my entry for the last WG of the Old Forum. Since I'm heading up the new one, I can't submit it, but I'm posting it here for posterity's sake, and mayhap to give the participants a different idea of what they can do.
~~~~
Longing for your other half
the other part of your soul
one who makes you feel alive
one who makes you truly whole
One who lives beyond the sea
one who waits for you each day
waits till you come home again
home again and home to stay
Vent the sorrow that you feel
to be separated so
still remember you have friends
friends to help you as you go
Every day will bring you near
to the one you long to see
live through the pain one more day
soon it will be memory
~~~~~~~~
It's an extended acrostic; the first letters of every verse spell LOVE. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

That's lovely Asa, and funnily enough made me feel better. I've not seen my boyfriend of two years for two months and man, is it hard! He's coming to see me on Sunday though and then we get to spend a month together! In the mean time, I lean on my friends, both here and in real life and you guys all keep me smiling. Thank you all. _________________ He who does not eat cheese will go mad. ~ French proverb.

It was lovely, AsA. See, my poetry (on the few occasions I write any) is when I am not emotionally sound enough to write. Obviously, crap like this ensues.
A desperate victim chained to Hate,
It's weak heart slows as cold Death knocks.
A mocking voice that guards Hell’s gate,
It's heart is cruel that keeps Death’s box.
Screams of terror, wails of fright,
Coming from a vapor grey,
Coming from Land of Sleepless Night,
Where evil lurks, and shadows stray.
It's stealthy footsteps lead the way
To carefree mortals, It's arch foes.
It breaks the merry, destroys the gay,
And brings destruction er It goes.
A burdened soul that cannot rest,
A mind, once blithe, now grown insane.
Unending travel for hopeless quest,
A creeping malice, we call Pain.
A cutting voice is whispering words
In quiet, still attack.
'You are lost, bound with cords,
You can never go back.'
But deep inside your secret thoughts
That without hope will die,
You know that you can break the knots
And go home, if you try. _________________ Fall down seven times, get up eight. --Japanese Proverb

I envy you both, even if you don't think yours is any good, Ponce. See, it's so technically correct, it rhymes every other line together... I dunno, I think it's grand, even if you don't.
@AsA: Hidden messages in poems... lol, you're going to get me thinking like a conspiracy theorist again! Honestly it's not hard...
Poetry, of this I have I have a wealth
Tucked in dusty tomes high upon a shelf
But perhaps not in isolation should they rest
And in the hands of readers they serve best
...I spent way too much time reading poetry as a child. I was going to further hijack your thread, AsA, then realized what I was doing, sorry. _________________ . Dubbed "Usagi" by AsA .

It's okay, the thread is for responses to the poem, whatever form they may take. However, Ponce, you should post that in it's own thread, it's good enough to deserve commenting, and that should not happen here. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

Give it the credit it deserves! Put it in its own thread, so that we can all comment on it to our heart's content. And when you do that, you can replace the poem here with a link. ^_^ _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^
