Oh, they're easy! It just depends on how long your hair is. The longer the hair, the easier it is to do a bun, bin my opinion... Twist the tail tight and wrap it around the ponytail, then tuck the end into the hairband.

But that's not what Nan did, so I don't know how to do that bun.

If you've got long enough hair you can secure it with a stick. I used to use waxed wooden knitting needles in my hair.

From the looks of it Nan's folded her hair vertically and secured it with a clip. I'm fair sure my hair would never cooperate with a style like that, but Nan's is a lot longer than mine!

Sorry I missed the whole hair discussion somehow! Anyhow, I don't actually have a reference for Nanashi's hair. I just thought such a design was possible and went with that.

It should be noted that I can't even do a braid. I've had short hair for most of my life and am absolutely horrible at putting it up or doing much of anything with it.

And woooooooo Egypt! Her name is Maatkare, not that it's going to come up in the comic, but they do all have names

The unnaturally "naturally" high levels of blood element also neatly explains how three of Obilish's children managed to form soulstones at once.

Also: three distinct subspecies? One with a beak? 0_o.
