That's why I was irritated - the Doctor's daughter was a semi-clone created in the first 5 seconds of the episode, not any one of a dozen old plot threads they could have revived.
It does raise the interesting question of what a Time Lord is and how one becomes one - are (or were) all Gallifreyans by default Time Lords, and do all Time Lords have to be Gallifreyans? By extension, will Jenny be a Time Lady, or just a roaming plot bunny?

I really liked Jenny's character...but from what the Doctor said at the beginning about how she was created, I was SO confused as to why she wasn't able to regenerate and needed the Source's gas to revive. I'm really anxious to see how she meets Donna and the Doctor again...I feel like she'll be in the finale. _________________ Keeper of Zaebos' and Jormand's powers.

Oh, i'm sure she'll be back, probably for the finale. but i think the regeneration is a specifically time lord thing, not just a gallifreyan thing, hence her not being able to regenerate. But i'm not quite sure what the source gas was supposed to have done... _________________ Keeper of Tristram's rings, and Felucca's very expressive ears. |

You see nothing!
But the source gas was supposed to establish life and terraform; my guess is that if it can spontaneously create plants, then it can bring the freshly dead back to life. _________________ Keeper of Zaebos' and Jormand's powers.

This one annoyed me. Mainly due to biology nerdity but how was she female when he is male? Surely you'd need to change a Y-chromosome into an X?

Well, men naturally have both an x and a y chromosome; I didn't catch everything, but I think she's only a quasi-clone. Like, she has human DNA and Time Lord DNA? _________________ Keeper of Zaebos' and Jormand's powers.

I thought the machine took DNA from the sample and just stuck it back together in a different order. Hmmmm...biology brings up too many questions. _________________ He who does not eat cheese will go mad. ~ French proverb.

The explanation given (taking cells, making them haploid and then recombining them to return them to a diploid state) would allow this easily, assuming that gallifreyans have mammalian-style gender genetics - it wouldn't however, be possible in the other direction.
Other explanations would include totally non-mammalian gender genetics - in other species, gender can be determined by age (some fish), environment of living (other fish, wherein the death of a male will cause one of his harem to spontaneously change gender), environment of egg incubation (crocodiles), etc etc etc.
But that all ignores the fact that it's been stated that a Time Lord can take on pretty much any appearance (including more than one HEAD...) during regeneration. Although, oddly, they've always appeared to be male humans so far... _________________ Keeper of Tristram's rings, and Felucca's very expressive ears. |

I'm not watching anything with potential spoilers, but...
I can finally follow your conversation! Not that I have anything to add. Man, I wish Sci-fi wasn't so far behind in airing episodes! _________________ If you're reading this, you haven't quite made it to the next post. |

Who here is all caught up and PUMPED about the season finale?!?! I'm so excited that Rose Tyler is coming back. And Donna's dying? I really hope they can keep her for next season. I want them to develop a character that's just as deep as Rose was, and I don't feel like I've gotten that out of either Martha or Donna, probably because they don't delve into their lives outside of the Doctor.
And Russel T. Davies is quitting Doctor Who!!! :O!!!! _________________ Keeper of Zaebos' and Jormand's powers.

Given Davies' policy on spoilers, (he lies. Constantly) I'd be surprised, unusually, if the trailer is actually accurate, tbh.
But equally, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Rose back for good. She's extremely popular.
I'd also be shocked to see Davies quitting entirely - he's just not producing any more. And I have every confidence that Stephen Moffat will, if anything, do a better job - Coupling, probably his most well-known series, is among the best modern comedy, and he both wrote and produced it.
Sorry, this one's not as long as you thought. Spoiler tags are FUN =D _________________ Keeper of Tristram's rings, and Felucca's very expressive ears. |

Spooooiillers!
I'm a vocal rose fan, and was literally jumping off the walls when I heard she was coming back. Saturdays episode was fantastic, I hear a lot of dissappointment aimed Russell's way, but I've always thought he was a great writer - Turn Left being no exception.
Anyone else think Billie Piper was a bit rusty? Obviously it's Billie Piper so she could do no wrong in mine eyes, but the voice was off. Needs to revise her mockney me thinks...
Otherwise, I cannot wait for that cameoriffic finale! Everyone whose anyone in Doctor who seems to be gracing the Doctor's way for this ending.
I've been wondering how RTD could ever possibly write the reunion between Rose and the Doctor. Their parting was so heartwrenching, I don't know how he can top it.
Well, yes, I do. With lots of sloppy kisses.
You know it'll happen, Russell T Davis has a cheeky twinkle in his eye on confidential when he talks about it. Watch this space.
