The Occupational Outlook Handbook from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:

For basically any profession you can think of, it'll tell you:

* the training and education needed
* earnings
* expected job prospects
* what workers do on the job
* working conditions

Obviously they can't cover EVERYTHING. There's no entry for whale feces researcher. But for most professions there'll be an entry.
