Posted: Sat May 03, 2008 10:50 am Post subject: Wink Murder OOC |
|
|
When I was here before there was a series of wink murder games set up. They seemed to work well and I wondered if anyone would be averse to doing it again. They don't take long and are less daunting than full RPGs!
The basic premise is this; The person who set up the game is the GM. They think up a scenario where a group of people are isolated (can be fantasy, sci-fi, real life, go wild!) and post it along with an idea of it's layout and a list of Characters needing players. Eg:
The SS Salamander has been dispatched to the farther reaches of the galaxy to do routine maintenance on sentry satellites posted there. It consists of a central corridor leading from the bridge at the front of the ship to the engine room at the back. Just behind the bridge is a medical bay on the left and a kitchen on the right. Single berths for the crew line the corridor on either side and are separated from the engine room by a social area.
Posts available:
1. Captain
2. First mate
3. Navigator
4. Medical Officer
5. Cook
6. Engineer
7. Engineer's apprentice
8. Data analyst
Once all the posts have been filled and short bios provided in an OOC thread the GM sends a private message to the murderer, letting them know that they are about to go on a frenzied spree! The game starts and life is normal. Once everyone has posted at least twice the killings begin. They are carried out by the murderer PMing their victim. The victim then has to post their death in the thread and just to be clear, actually say they are dead in OOC. Please be careful with death posting, keep to the forum rules or there will be poodling! Remember, euphemisms are your friends!
The object is for the players to guess who the murderer is before everyone is dead. Everyone gets one accusation in the OOC thread and if they are right the murderer must say so. If not, we know who it isn't! If the murderer succeeds in killing everyone they are the GM for the next game, if they are outed their accusor is GM for the next game.
Let me know what you think/any problems you foresee and if you fancy it, copy and paste the list with your name next to the post you'd like.
1. Captain - Allicat
2. First mate
3. Navigator
4. Medical Officer
5. Cook
6. Engineer
7. Engineer's apprentice
8. Data analyst _________________ He who does not eat cheese will go mad. ~ French proverb.

IIRC, the WMGs went in the Forum Games section, being games rather than RPs in the strictest sense. In the long run, i'd prefer for them to remain there, or in their own sub-section of the RPs section, so as to avoid the copious threads that both sorts of game require getting TOO copious IYSWIM. For now, though, leaving them in here is OK - I'll talk about a long term solution with teh Lady when she gets back from forn parts. _________________ Keeper of Tristram's rings, and Felucca's very expressive ears. |

they were always fun, but the problem we had mostly was that people lost interest or it took "too long". Those games were separated into days and nights - game wise, not time wise. I vote that to make it go faster (and stop people from getting bored) you don't have a time limit (like you can only kill at night), or whatever. It's been a bit. . .that probably wouldn't work anyhow ^^; _________________ Keeper of Gaia and all the books on Earthsong

It's a game, but it's a bit more that the 'tag--you're it!' kind of games that dominate the pwnage section. Plus, it does involve a roleplaying element. I vote for it to stay here.
I would TOTALLY be up for this again! It was SO much fun. _________________ Keeper of Zaebos' and Jormand's powers.

I would love to try this too! I just don't have the time for a full RPG...as much as I'd like to.
I claim first mate or navigator!!! _________________ Fall down seven times, get up eight. --Japanese Proverb

WM was awesomesauce glad to see some enthusiasm again! If anyone who wants to join could post the list with their name next to the position they want and a brief bio, that'd be good ^_^ _________________ He who does not eat cheese will go mad. ~ French proverb.

Ponce: Depends when/if the posts get filled!
Sample bio (mine!):
Post: Captain
Name: Sara Munrow
Age: 56
Height: 6' 0"
Build: Slim, wiry
Eyes: Grey
Hair: Faded chestnut, going grey.
Temperament: Takes no nonsense from anyone. No tolerance for timewasters, laziness or tears. Scathing when she thinks you are at fault and does not suffer fools gladly. Not sociable with the crew but understands their need to break the monotony, so long as she is not disturbed. If she is, the ones responsible can expect tough duties, mainly cleaning the engine. _________________ He who does not eat cheese will go mad. ~ French proverb.

Bio
Rank: First mate
Name: Tally Sohovic
Age: 24
Height: 5' 2''
Build: Thin, but with muscle. Relies more on speed than raw strength.
Eyes: Blue/green
Hair: Dark blonde, cut around jawline.
Temperment/backstory: Tally lived on the streets from the age of ten on up. Raised single-handedly by one of the top gangs of the docks, Tally was taught everything she knew by survival and harsh life. Usually quiet, but will speak up when she sees the need. Also has issues with weakness, crying, and other somewhat boring activities. This is probably why she gets on so well with Captain Munrow. _________________ Fall down seven times, get up eight. --Japanese Proverb

1. Captain - Allicat
2. First mate - Ponce
3. Navigator
4. Medical Officer - Mane
5. Cook
6. Engineer
7. Engineer's apprentice
8. Data analyst
Bio
Rank: Medical Officer
Name: Clinton Poletti
Age: 26
Height: 6'3''
Build: Thin with little muscle
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Blond, in a fohawk
Temperment/backstory: Born in a well-to-do family, Clint doesn't quite understand the value of money; being a well-paid medical officer only perpetuates his spending habits. He is incredibly shy by nature, and he has a large personal bubble; he lets very, very few people touch him. Clint is goofy and a bit mean sometimes, but he's a good friend with a good heart; he'll realize (in retrospect) when he's gone too far and try to make it up to others. He'll almost never initiate anything. _________________ Keeper of Zaebos' and Jormand's powers.
