I was listening to a song called "Isle of Innisfree" and came up with new words. It's been a long time since I wrote a song, so I'm happy I can still do it. What do y'all think?
Here's a link to a piano version of the song. Not perfect, but at least there's no words to get in your way.
Dessert is Always Free
I’ve met some folks
Who say I’m quite the baker
They love my cakes
My pies and cookies too
And so I keep them happy when I see them
I always like to try out something new
And new foods
Are gold to someone like me
They transport me
In joy and ecstasy
Especially when it’s sweet to tongue and taste buds
And so with me, dessert is always free
Instrumental
Not long ago
Somebody entered my name
Into a contest
For old recipes
They thought that I would excel at my baking
And share with them
The winning entries
And so I thought on what I should create
Lemon meringue
Or kiwi squash supreme
Something with dough
Or maybe something classic
Like apple pie
With homemade whipped cream
I didn’t win
But people love my food still
And I’ve got lots
To share and give away
Well as you know
The proof is in the pudding
And so with me
Dessert is always free
For me the funniest bit is the fact that this is a slow, mournful song, to which I put humorous words. The contrast is the point of this song, to get at least a few laughs at the last couplet. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

That was odd, very disconcerting. I could listen to the music or read the words but when I tried to put them both together my brain hurt. I believe that your words to this song are best enjoyed in company, many people singing along in mournful harmony about the joy of baking. Thanks for sharing twas good. _________________ "He gave you a life and you should cherish that treasure." - Benny

Well, in response to your post, I recorded myself singing it, but I'm not too happy with the quality - I have a low end microphone, and there's some weird static on a couple verses. I may rerecord later and share it with you all. ^_^ _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

In terms of recording, the problem is actually more likely to be more in depth. Most microphone jacks hook into the motherboard of the computer, which has a lot of electricity running through it. This will contribute a lot of "noise" to the recording. The way to relieve this is to purchase an external sound card, or at least a standalone sound card instead of using on-board audio.
I don't know anything about laptops, though. Dedicated recording equipment, of course, provides the best results. My brother has a bunch of that hardware, and uses it for train horns. -_-;
As for the verse itself, I like your adaptation! And the music.. I think I'm going to listen to that on repeat for a bit. _________________ . Dubbed "Usagi" by AsA .
