Well, Beluosus wanted Earthsong's job back when it was first created. Since then he has:
1) Suffered some kind of calamity which led the other planets to believe he had been destroyed;
2) Presumably lost his own children as part of aforesaid calamity;
3) Brought his core umpteen bazillion miles through space to Earthsong;
4) and waged war on ES and her visiting children for thousands of years.
On top of that, he just ain't looking too good these days.
So, maybe he still wants ES's job; but he very well may have other goals now instead. _________________ Keeper of The Remnant Minuon (cognomen Lucy, the Eaten One) and the Emissary Caeli |

Earthsong, or one of the Guard, could kill Willow... _________________ Never forget,

It seems likely to me that he's looking for a way to control or blackmail Earthsong into doing what he wants. If the other planets think he's dead, then they're be likely to realize it if Earthsong kicked the bucket as well. So if he could somehow control her without potential fatality, he'd be more likely to use that method. Perhaps that's what he was looking for in all of the children he took - a way to control Earthsong. He seems a bit too sneaky to try anything more direct. _________________ Keeper of Gaia and all the books on Earthsong

Probably considering how to infect Willow, and thus infecting Earthsong's core, thus infecting Earthsong and taking over. At this point, he doesn't want her job, since that requires responsibility and compassion. Now he wants the power he could potentially drain from all of those soulstone bearers. He may be even more shortsighted, and simply want to drain Earthsong and take over her planet-body.
At this point, haven't you learned that simpler is probably better? When Bel said he failed, he meant he thought he failed to infect her soulstone. Remember, he's had experience in that (Nanashi). Then he realized Willow was Earthsong's Eve, and has a new Brilliant Plan (TM). _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

The eve must dies for most planets at some point and it would be quite a drawback if your eve getting eaten or something was enough to kill the planet. _________________ Never forget,

| Maybe once the Eve has had children, the element is spread among them and losing the Eve doesn't hurt the planet so much? I dunno. And one doesn't need to worry about Eves getting eaten, they're rather powerful. |

90% of any conflict is decided a long time before anything happens, even among animals. I could probably kill every single member of Haven's Guard with very little trouble and I've got no powers, as such, whatsoever. Willow might be powerful in a standup fight, provided she actually has access to her powers, but unless she's immune to being shot in the back, crushed, poisoned, etc, she'd be a massive liability. _________________ Never forget,

Hmm, that would be what 'not mortal' - rephrased as 'immune to mortality' - means.
There are myths supporting both distinctions. One has a nymphs falling in love with a mortal man, and asking her father to grant him immortality. However, she forgot to ask for eternal youth as well, and the mortal grew older and older, eventually withering away to a grasshopper (this being the origin of the grasshopper). The nymph's sister also fell in love with a mortal man, and grew wise from her sister's folly. She asked for eternal youth, but set no limits on it, and her father put the mortal to eternal sleep - eternally preserved, and eternally young.
So if this what my story to warp, I'd have the Eves be un-killable, un-dying, and un-aging. If they had to age, it'd probably be extremely slowly. Almost imperceptibly. In this situation they'd probably not be un-dying, in that they would be able to die of old age... eventually.
Rechaana: I seem to remember the powers being related to the soulstone material. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^
