TCLT? Hmm. Anyway: Thread for linking cool things you find and want to share. I seem to remember we used to have one but I couldn't find it so I think it must have been before the forum crash. Anyhoo, I was reading this
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2003/jun/24/usa.science
And thought some of you might get a kick out of it, (Tam maybe?) so it required a cool things thread. _________________ Never forget,

Check out this page from Yahoo Answers: Is it OK to run an illegal library from my locker?
Opinion is divided in the library school I attend as to whether the school involved was seriously banning the books, or whether it was a reverse psychology ploy to get kids to read them. I'm inclined to think it was a genuine banning, assuming that the post itself is genuine, which it might not be. It's kind of a self-serving question after all -- designed to get people to tell the poster how great the poster is for bravely standing up to censorship. _________________ Keeper of The Remnant Minuon (cognomen Lucy, the Eaten One) and the Emissary Caeli |

mmm... even if the post isn't genuine it still gives me a warm fuzzy feeling just thinking someone would do something like this. What I can't believe is that hitchhikers is on that list and so is bridge to terabithia. I mean, terabithia won the newbery award... children's lit. I fail to see why a highschool would ban it, I'm assuming highschool because the post speaks of sophomores, juniors, seniors, and jazz, but who knows. Anywho, if this is real it was a really good way to start my morning. _________________ I can't remember....oh *le sigh* |

I'm not sure it was reverse Psychology - because assuming that the post is truthful, the poster says that most of the kids were too afraid to go check out the books from the library. If he hadn't started his own mini-library, most wouldn't be reading them at all.
On the other hand, banning Paradise Lost and Candide is absolutely ridiculous. I don't think I've ever heard of them being banned before . . . _________________ Keeper of Gaia and all the books on Earthsong

That dog scratching his back was SO cute!
Also, that ion engine sounds amazing. That would be SO awesome if we attained that type of technology.
