I'm sure you all remember this book. I just had to share the awesomeness that is the trailer:

(Good call on the Arcade Fire song)
Interesting to see how this short story book will do as a full length movie. I can't wait! _________________ My printer thinks it's some kinda guitar hero because it won't stop jamming.

Well, they did Horton, so I guess thy can do this.
Hmm, it looks . . . happier than I remember the book being. Granted it's been a while since I read it, but wasn't the kid a jerk? And didn't he and the monsters not really get along?
Ah well, it will be interesting. _________________ Keeper of Gaia and all the books on Earthsong

I think the happiness has more to do with the song than anything else, and trailers never show the real tone of the story, ever. There appears to be some feelings of betrayal and loneliness, as shown by the clips of the parents and the classroom.
Ah, nostalgia, it brings a smile to my face. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

I remember the bunny suit. I definitely remember that. I will have to get a group of my friends to go see that movie...it will be fun to reminisce. _________________ "Moral excellence comes about as a result of habit. I think that the movie may have a Pan's Labyrinth-esque thread in it - the child will keep retreating to this island where he's king whenever his life gets too upsetting/out of control. (Hopefully it won't be the same ending as PL).
I love that they didn't use CGI for the creatures. Using Jim Henson's workshop for this was a fantastic idea - the monsters look amazing! _________________ My printer thinks it's some kinda guitar hero because it won't stop jamming.

I liked the ending to Pan's Labyrinth. >>;
Jim Henson? Really? Wow, I'm looking forward to it so much more, just for that!
They got the suit right, all right, and the scepter too - as well as the monsters themselves. _________________ Keeper of Gaia and all the books on Earthsong

Ah you beat me to it, I was going to make a thread for this trailer.
I think that the movie looks beautiful - the monsters are wonderfully true to the illustrations and it looks like they've provided a great back story to go with the fantasy element. I'm betting it'll be a "retreat from reality into fantasy land" scenario as well. _________________ Keeper of Nanashi's Vambraces and the Amethyst Trees.

Hehehe...John Lassetter (now in charge of Pixar AND Disney studios) was fired for pushing a 3D version of this a little too hard back in the mid-80s (among other things...also wanted to do a 3D Brave Little Toaster, but that obviously didn't happen either). Disney fired him, and Pixar was propelled by Lassetter to the forefront of the industry a decade later...ah, the irony that he's now in charge of their animation studios at Disney too...
Squee can't wait for this movie. From what Squee's heard, the CG on the puppets is mostly just touchups on expressions, but that the majority of it is Hensen's puppetry (yes, very high-fidelity facial puppetry going on here). Which is pretty amazing just looking at the trailer. I think they'll be able to nail the feel for this movie from the looks of things. |
