I like the midground shots best of all, those are stunning. I think you could have picked better subjects for the background shots, because it just looks like something got in the way of the picture rather than it being intentional.
What I love best about Arpeggio is that it looks like you caught a raindrop forming on his finger, as well. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

I totally agree re: the background. I'm just not entirely sure when background would be best used. In film it's incredibly useful...but maybe if I used the foreground as a frame for the back? _________________ Keeper of Zaebos' and Jormand's powers.

I can think of one example, anyway - in a crowded environment, you can focus on one person in the back, while all the rest are blurred.
It's also a matter of controlling the blur - here the foreground is massively out of focus, but it doesn't have to be that much of a difference.
I did a quick Google search on 'background focus', and came up with a few more examples:

So yes, something to consider. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

The first says "forbidden server"...but I totally get the idea from the other two. I like it! Though I DO think that both pictures are a tad overexposed. (Though some of mine are too lol. Gotta be careful of those glass houses, you know.) _________________ Keeper of Zaebos' and Jormand's powers.

Hmmm... me too. Well, I got it off Google, so it's their fault. It's a picture of a desert suburb, with a clump of purple flowers in the foreground. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

Week 6: Light/Shadow
For this project, we needed to capture five photos where shadow plays the main role in the abstraction of the picture and five photos with five different unusual light sources. I'm going to add a few more from my pool shoot because I'm particularly proud of it.
Ascend
Bunyan's Bounty
Cancer
Deep
Emergency
Fallen Angel
Frond
Growth
Peter Pan
Time

I loved the first five, Peter Pan, and Time.
The first Untitled made me crack up.
Actually, not the first five. The first five I could see. Ascend isn't working. _________________ ...In accordance with the prophesy.

I don't know why, but I like "Fallen Angel". What is it a picture of? _________________ Dubbed Marcus by Asa

It looked like an underwater shot of someone splashing into a pool. _________________ ...In accordance with the prophesy.

Fallen Angel and the tree are my favorites, as well as Emergency. But after that... it sort of fell apart. I can' telaborate now, but I will later if you want me to. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

Keep in mind that the only pictures I'm actually including in my project are the ones up through time. The all the pool shots (save Deep and Fallen Angel) are up purely because I like them and not necessarily meant to be part of this set. And yes, if you could elaborate, that'd be great. "I don't like it" doesn't help me much, but telling me why you don't like it does. _________________ Keeper of Zaebos' and Jormand's powers.

Oh, good, because those really bring down the overall quality of this set. (By the way, I can see Ascend now - and it's gorgeous.) Mostly, it's because the water distorts the model's proportions. There's a way to use water to your advantage, but these shots don't. For that reason alone, I'd scrap them from a public portfolio. Also, the reflection up onto her face looks wrong somehow... perhaps because we're more used to seeing a light source from above.
Also, the two plant pictures you took - I can't really see how shadow and light play a role in those. Would you mind explaining?
I think my two favorites are Ascend and Emergency. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^
