Sounds like a postcard, doesn't it?

I joined this board yesterday, and have already received a dub and an invitation to introduce myself. So, here goes:

Hello! I'm Outasync, dubbed "Caste" by Asa.

[pause]

What? What? I've introduced myself, haven't I? You want more? Oh, alright.

[thinks furiously, trying to come up with something interesting to say]

I've been reading "Earthsong" for over a year now. As well as enjoying the Lady's artwork I also appreciate her skills as a story-teller. As a writer (or aspiring writer - see poll) I am learning alot about the art of story-telling from "Earthsong" and other webcomics. Thanks!

My forum-attentance will be erratic, like my health. And my sanity, come to that; although sanity does not appear to be a requirement for joining this community. Quite the reverse, in fact.

Well, that's me. I leave the rest of my personality to be inferred from my posts. One thing this post tells you, for example, is that once I get started talking it is almost impossible to get me to stop!

Some members of the forum are sane, but we seem to act as corner pilings rather than anything usual. Hmmm... that made no sense at all. Basically, though there are some sane members of the forum, we're the exception, and feel free to be as crazy as you want! ^_^

Also, to clarify my response to your poll: A writer is someone who writes. An author is someone who's published. In today's world, this could include self-publishing, and online publishing to a site like www.fictionpress.com. And I believe that if you're serious about the craft of writing, find yourself a guidebook. Don't just look at what other people do, but really get yourself a 'teacher' and learn the ins and outs of it. I suggest Revising Fiction: A Handbook for Writers By David Madden, because while you say you want to be a writer, you already know how to put words on the page. What you really want are tips and guides for how to make your writing better, and this book excels at that. I can't remember when I got it myself, but it's invaluable.

Also, feel free to frequent the Writing Section! You know what, also the RPG section, because our RPGS are run like round-robin stories. But I'll let Usa give you more information about that. ^_^

Welcome to the Forum!

*throws a feather at you, then slides a glance at Tamir and runs away giggling*

Pffft ... pffft ... pffft ... argh, feathers in the face!

[flaps them away, literally spitting feathers. Takes deep, theatrical breath. Spits out feathers again. Takes another, rather less theatrical breath.]

Firstly - thanks for the reply. Things move fast around here, don't they?

Secondly, thanks for the suggestions. I already have a blog, and belong to an online writing community (writing.com) so I get some feedback on my writing. As you say, I already know how to put words on a screen! I've looked up the book you recommended and have saved it to my wish list. On a bit of a budget at the moment (saving up for a new powered wheelchair - boy are they expensive!) but will get the book when I can. It looks like just what I need.

I've lurked a bit around the Writing section of this forum, and would like to join in an RPG. Trouble is, I've never played any RPGs before either online or in RL. I think I'll lurk a bit longer until I get the feel for how they work. Either that or pester Usa to explain it all to me...

Thirdly, thanks for the welcome. Not so sure about the feather, though.

Yes, yes. Welcome.

As Asa says (wow, lotsa a's and s's), sanity is the exception rather than the rule. We're very civil, though.

And yes, things work very quickly here. Disappear for a few days in the middle of a school week, and the Today thread and the Word Asosiation Game will grow three to five pages.

Seriously, I haven't been here a year and I have 1200 posts.

Firstly, I want to thank you Asa for explaining so clearly the reason I'd been searching for as to why it didn't feel quite right to say a "writer" is someone who's been published. I was having a real time of it trying to put that whole thing about authors and writers together in my head >_<

Secondly, welcome to the forum! Tenshi went and proved me wrong about his internet access issues the last time I tried to cover for him with his Welcome to the Forum Guide Post, so this time I'll just say that if you've got any questions or such about the RPGs, and don't want to wait for him to come around, you can always pester me as well. ^_^ It's one of my missions in life to spread the Good Word about RPGs, and I'd be more than delighted to help you get started.
