I read through the archives, and couldn't help seeing Earthsong as Banks and Felucca as Hathaway. _________________ ...In accordance with the prophesy.

I finally remembered who that other actress - the one mentioned on this discussion in the old forum! Amanda Peet as Felucca:

I'm thinking maybe Kristanna Loken for Gwen...
And Kou Shibasaki as Nanashi...

I vote Utada Hikaru as Nanashi.

Utada doesn't act and Shibasaki tends to get casted as sociopaths or "spunky girl!".
Personally, since my first choice is 30 or 40 years too old to portray Nanashi now, I'd recommend Nakashima Mika or Yuuko Daike. _________________ Bernard [about the job]: The pay's not great, but the work is hard.

Kou has done some pretty good dramatic work... did you see Chakushin Ari?
She's great in that, and handles some real character depth quite nicely. _________________ Just because I like scary things doesn't mean I'M- okay, it kinda does sometimes.

No, but Yuuko Daike has done more high powered acting, as well as action work in 'Zatoichi' - her acting is really good in that film. Plus, the last thing I saw Shibasaki in was Galilaeo, so my vote remains with Daike. _________________ Bernard [about the job]: The pay's not great, but the work is hard.

But she *could*. Everybody's gotta get a start in the business somehow. And, based on what she's like in interviews and such, she's got the personality to pull off Nanashi. _________________ Keeper of Zaebos' and Jormand's powers.

Hmmm... I dunno. They're all so ... pretty. I don't really think of Nanashi as pretty. I wouldn't mind her being played by an older actress though the character IS in her early twenties physiologically - an older face would lend some gravitas to her.
But how about Daniel Craig for Bond, Beluosus Bond?
I think with his craggy face and cold eyes that he'd be perfect.
Also, along with Amanda Peet, I think Sandra Bullock was in the running for Felucca, was she not? _________________ Keeper of Nanashi's Vambraces and the Amethyst Trees.

Peet looks more like a Neuria to me, from that shot.
I agree with tL again - Nan should be plainer, and more rough-hewn.
Maybe Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon)?
EDIT: Also, from what I've seen of Craig, he's not very good at seeming -powerful? Iunno, I just don't think he's got the presence required to be Bel. _________________ Dubbed Pants by AsA, via the way of the electric pants. |

Yes, I think that Sandra Bullock was in the running.
I'm not familiar with any of the actresses listed above for Nanashi. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Nanashi 1/2 Japanese?
I don't know how I feel about Daniel Craig as Bel. This would mean that I would have a massive crush on Bel. Also, I don't think it's right to cover up Daniel Craig's face and body.... _________________ My printer thinks it's some kinda guitar hero because it won't stop jamming.

I believe she was either half-Japanese, half-Chinese, or a full-blooded Japanese living in China. _________________ Dubbed Pants by AsA, via the way of the electric pants. |

Full blooded Japanese living in India actually. I don't think I've ever actually told anyone about that before. Lucky you! I'm going to write a short story of Nanashi's pre-Earthsong life one of these days.
Also, I do really like Michelle Yeoh... but she's Chinese. I think I'd want an honest to goodness Japanese lady to play Nan. _________________ Keeper of Nanashi's Vambraces and the Amethyst Trees.

Unfortunately, a lot of the younger actors today, especially in Japan, are "idol" talents meaning they often do pop music as well, so there's a certain image that's maintained. It'll be difficult to find an actress under the age of 40 who isn't pretty in all honesty.
Mika Nakashima played Nana Oosaki for the Nana film, so while she is pretty, I'm fairy sure she could pull off Nanashi's intensity. Possibly the actress who played Heaven's Fall in Seven Swords would also be a good match, but I'm not so update to date on current HK films. _________________ Bernard [about the job]: The pay's not great, but the work is hard.

Why can't we assemble a dream team? I still vote for early Julie Andrews for ES.
And there's always the magic of makeup. Get a good actress and make her look un-pretty. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^
