I checked the website, and according to the folks at NaNo, Brave New World is around 30,000 words and considered a novel. The point of it however, is getting people to write and to try to write a completed story.
I eventually managed to break 20,000 words, but I do love the concept that I've come up with and even though I didn't manage to complete it for NaNo, I think I'm definitely going to continue it. Hopefully on dA or LJ or something.  I'm barely onto the main event, though I have been taking my time with flash backs and the like.
