I've been seeing this all over the place lately, is it really accurate? Anyone have/heard anything concrete about it? _________________ Keeper of Gaia and all the books on Earthsong

Nope, haven't seen that before just now. And frankly, it looks mildly crazy to me. The situation in Iraq is a lot more complicated than a simple "win/lose".
Even if it were that simple, I wouldn't take the word of some random guy on a web site called "ZombieTime.com". _________________ Keeper of The Remnant Minuon (cognomen Lucy, the Eaten One) and the Emissary Caeli |

I don't think it's supposed to be news, more like a political statement. _________________ ...In accordance with the prophesy.

It's actually somewhat interesting, as is the rest of the site. As for the validity of the claim,
| ZombieTime dude wrote: | | My opinion is: This is as good a time to declare victory as we're ever going to get. (...) If you don't agree, that's perfectly fine, you can ignore this essay. But if you think this is long overdue, then climb on board. |
It's clearly his opinion, and he's clearly trying to make a statement (and get it to as many places as possible). |

Which is what I meant, but phrased way gooder. _________________ ...In accordance with the prophesy.

It sounds sort of like wishful thinking, and I wish it was true... but it's not official. As he said, "We the people declare this..." So yeah. Thanks for linking it, though. ^_~
I think he's done a fairly good job of laying out his opinion and his reasoning without resorting to much mudslinging at all. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

You can't win a war where you don't stand to gain anything in 'victory' you can only lose less painfully. That said militarily the job is done when every soldier is out of the country and the Iraqies take control, after that it's not our problem. _________________ Never forget,

Since, in the end, we were the cause of much of the problems there, even once we leave, any future problems will be a directly result of our actions there. We can, and probably will, say that its not our problem anymore, but in the end, we're simply dumping all the problems WE caused onto other people.
And Squee's not just talking about the recent Iraqi war, but the whole history of the region due to (not-solely) U.S. meddling. We got involved, so it became our problem. Not trying to overly-politicize the issue, but the only reason it will ever be NOT our problem is when we dump it. Which we inevitably will, regardless of politics. |

If you don't care the consequencies of your actions are only ever problems for other people. Being responsible for something and finding it problematic are different concepts; otherwise we'd be stuck with the statement that peace if it ever breaks out over there is, at least in part, our problem. _________________ Never forget,

But the US always declares victory, regardless of the circumstances. We've never lost - if you listen to the media anyways. People like to forget Vietnam, where we technically lost, but didn't because we pulled out so we "won". We always win, because we're funky like that.

Well it's a bit depressing to declare defeat. XP
I didn't say you won, I said it's not your problem anymore. We lost the American war of independence but when we went home it ceased to be our problem, militarily at least. There's a difference ^_~ _________________ Never forget,
