I remember this thread being a lot of fun back in the old forum, and the current message the webmaster of TWC put up reminded me of it. So here it is again!
WHO would you cast in Earthsong, The Movie?
(Please be so kind as to link to a picture of the person you have in mind, or their imdb profile)
I'm going to reveal my pick for Tristram sometime on the main page, so I won't post it here just yet. See if you can guess! _________________ Keeper of Nanashi's Vambraces and the Amethyst Trees.

Helena Bonham Carter as Tengu.
No, no. MATT LUCAS as Tengu.
But seriously? Umm...
No actor specifically comes to mind when I think of the characters, but looking at various actors, Maggie Gyllenhaal strikes me as possibly being a good match for K'Thonya. She's the right kind of mix of earthiness and femininity.
Joan Chen miiiight make a good Nanashi, if she were a bit younger. She'd certainly bring a lot of vulnerability to the role - and she's a good enough actress to probably make it work.
Tengu would probably be well served by Katee Sackhoff. They've both got a boisterousness to them, I think. Sackhoff could probably also play Skogul too, now that I think of it.
Perhaps Naomi Watts or Nicole Kidman for Gwen. Kidman's good at ice queens, but Watts is a much better actor overall.

I've got two actors in mind for Willow, and I think both would play her quite differently. On the one hand, Reese Witherspoon would probably make an excellent comedic Willow, and at the far other extreme, Romola Garai would probably perform a good dramatic one.

For some reason, I think that Helena Bonham Carter could do Neuria really well. Same kind of manicness. Or Morgan, but we haven't seen any of her personality yet.
For Earthsong, I'd say that Glenn Close would probably be my choice.
I'm less sure about Tristram, but maybe Ewan McGregor would be good. It'd be a very kind of honest Trissy, though.
For Fel... she was a hard one to pick. Maybe Audrey Tautou? Although Tautou would probably play her a lot less boysily, but equally silly-ish. (Grammar fail!)
Zaebos was hard too, but then I thought of either James Callis or a male Robyn Butler.
(Butler is the one on the right)
Is that everyone? Are my pictures too big? Are there too many blondes? XD _________________ Dubbed Pants by AsA, via the way of the electric pants. |

Helena Bonham Carter as Neuria FTW, all the way. She's a tiny woman, but sweet crackers would she do playfully sadistic and neurotic perfectly. Plus she's got the eyes. _________________ I do commissions!

Felucca would definitely need to be a CGI character, so as an actress we'd really just need a voice artist and possible a motion capture performer...
I think someone like Missy Elliot might work for that.
For Earthsong, we'd need someone who conveys a sense of great age, without actually looking old.
Two faces that come to my mind for this role are Michelle Pfeiffer and Marg Helgenberger:

A good way to audition Earthsong would be to Photoshop the mouth out (or in live auditions, cover it over) and see how well they can express emotion with their eyes. I think that's the most important aspect of Earthsong's charater. That, and motherly-ness.
I don't think any of the suggestions for Willow look vulnerable enough, their eyes are too strong. Even if she IS a strong character, her LOOK should be vulnerable.
At risk of being labeled a racist...I think K'th has to be a black woman, since that's her coloring in the comic.
And we have to find room for Christian Bale and Gerard Butler! Please?
In any case, I don't know enough about actors in general to give any specific suggestions. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

I'm with you on this one, Asa.
There is more to the appearance of people of African descent than just the color of their skin. And even though K'thonya's skin is olive-green, many of her facial features remind me of Africans.
And one more cast suggestion, and for a role that has not yet mentioned before:
Til Schweiger as Beluosus:
I'm not sure how well known Schweiger is outside Germany. In German Cinema and TV he's known for a couple of big roles in both action and comedy movies. Internationally he's had some appearances, mostly as a minor villain or henchman. (He played the son of the Saxon cheiftain in Jerry Bruckheimer's King Arthur. He turned down an offer to play a German machine gunner in Saving Private Ryan because he didn't want to play The Evil German™) _________________

K'thonya should be the easiest, right? Isn't she based on Alicia Keys to begin with?

Yup! Alicia Keys is my inspiration for K'Thonya, so she'd definitely get the role... if wanted XD
And you guys have some very interesting picks for the rest! Some I've never heard of but that's awesome in itself. Movies should be cast with GOOD actors, not just famous ones
Oh, and I love Helena B. Carter, but she's way too old for Neuria (who is a teenager) - she'd make a GREAT Morgan though _________________ Keeper of Nanashi's Vambraces and the Amethyst Trees.

| I think the best thing I've seen in this thread so far is Marg Helgenberger (who I'd never heard of before) as Earthsong. She looks wonderful for the part! |

I really like the idea of Reese Witherspoon as Willow!
And, continuing to pimp German actors with limited Hollywood experience, I suggest Franka Potente as Tengu:

She looks great for Tengu!
Maybe... Audrey Hepburn for Willow? Even though she's dead? I'm still not really happy with that... It needs to be someone with really big eyes and... I don't know. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^
