Just a reminder to all estadounidenses of voting age (the few of you that are on this forum Wink):

VOTE!

Vote if you're Democrat! Vote if you're independent! Vote if you're Libertarian! Vote if you're Republican (see, it's alphabetical)! Extremist fringe parties need not apply.

And don't forget to check to see if you're voting for governor, senators, congressmen, judges, mayors, state legislators, etc., etc., and to research them, too! It's not just the President, after all. Vote!

Extremist fringe parties ought to vote as well. We need them to play devil's advocate, and also occasionally for comic relief.

And I voted weeks ago, on the first day of early voting in my county. Not that it's going to matter much in the national elections, except maybe one House of Representatives race; Texas just isn't going to vote my preferred candidates into office. Simple as that.

My dad scared the pants off of me the other day when he confused the deadline for submitting your application for an absentee ballot with the deadline for mailing said ballot in, and called the day after to ask if I'd sent mine in on time >_<

I thought I'd missed out and couldn't vote!! Thank the maker I was smart and went online to doublecheck!

@Tin - Well at least you're doing what you think is right, rather than what you think will be popular. Kudos for you! Very Happy

Voting, even if you know your candidate won't win, is another way of telling the government, "I've got my eye on you! OoOoOoOoOooooo!" So kudos for voting, Tin!

I like absentee voting-the first I voted, I just plunked down in front of the laptop and looked up each individual candidate-took two hours to do, but it was still fun. This is the first time I've voted in a general election, though, so I'm going the traditional route-long lines and seeing a candidate for the first time on the ballot itself. Funfun!

Thanks for reminding me to look for the other candidates as well!

I'm going ot be happy when this is over and I stop getting phone calls. It's funny, both my parents work for the government, and I get to vote for their department heads, so I just ask them "Who do you want to be your boss?" and voila! That takes care of the school board and NRCS/USDA. The only thing I'm not quite sure about is judges - why have I never heard of any of these people?

That map Lope links to ( after a couple clicks) is quite biased, because blue represents Obama, and it ALSO represent ZERO votes. It'd be better if they had colorless until they had at least one vote, you know?

Ugh. This is my statistics immersion coming to the fore - I've got an exam on Wednesday, and I've been studying all afternoon (not really). Probabilities and inferences are doing a can-can through my head and giving me a headache... Sad

Looking down the list of countries that DO have a tally, a preemptive blue isn't much of a stretch. Of course, looking at the US tally, it's inaccuracy is obvious, merely because the internet confuses the old and uneducated. >_>

I voted a week or two ago. Unlike Tin, though, I'm currently living in pretty much the capitol of Swing-land. SE Ohio is often cited as the single swing region that cost Dems the election in 04. So...I should really be volunteering, but...I really really can't deal with random people like that. Embarassed And I'm kind of totally obsessed with the results of this, so I feel horrible.

I just looked -- as of this writing, Somalia doesn't appear in the list of countries, which I presume means that no one from there has participated. In the map above Somalia is represented as grey. I've got a screenshot, too.

On the other hand, the United Arab Emirates is shown in grey too (same screenshot), but it's listed as having 2,005 votes (90.6% Obama). So who knows? Weird.l

You forgot to mention the method of gathering the statistics is flawed Asa, based on the fact that voluntary surveys lead to biased and unreliable results! More statistics class test fun! Wink

What does the physical embodiment of an inference look like anyway?
