Well, since Richard was already controlling the rock, it would have just turned into a tug of war. Nanashi probably would have won, but it would have taken a while, and Skogul would have had a chance to recover by then. She needed a solution fast. _________________ Mors Certa, Vita Incerta.

Wait, why would Fel's powers turn everything into a dragon? It only seems to enlarge and augment the features that are already there. Nan would probably turn into a 35 ft tall gorilla or something...
(With dual buster swords and a prehensile ponytail...)
Which is probably reason enough for her to not use it...
As for the master blaster, eh, probably just reflex. We haven't seen any one power that would have worked, but I imagine several could have done the job if comboed with Neuria's speed. |

Nan's also been around a long time, so, over time, certain powers must have become more natural for her to use, or faster. Since Nan uses Siderean powers more than any one other power, (stats that I am making up... I think) it might have made more sense to use Siderean powers to smash the rock.
Also, how much control does Nan have? When someone wants to pick something up, the logical and first thing to do is to pick it up with the hand nearest, instead of trying to use your feet. It might make more sense, and you might not even consider using the other hand (unless the first one is already occupied,) especially if you're in a hurry. So, do Nan's powers have a kind of order of 'availability' for lack of a better word, or does she consciously think which one to use when she is simply thinking "get rid of that falling rock."? _________________ Dubbed Cube by Asa

See it at the final panel? The wee purple one next to the cyan one? |

Y'know, I'd think Nanashi would practice using the Siderean power as much as she can, since it's really one of the more useful ones. But perhaps practice doesn't make it any easier.

No problemo. Although this is a stupid, stupid theoru, it's so stupid, even I know it's not right. Since her jewel is so tiny she will become...

What, a mini-dragon? What would she be useful for as that, a messenger? Would they summon her when roasted marshmellows and flambe are needed? _________________ If you're reading this, you haven't quite made it to the next post. |

Not nearly as much as realising she's the adorably cute mascot of Earthsong. _________________ You can't look dignified when you're having fun.

I think Nanashi would explode from sheer rage if anyone called her 'adorable' or 'cute.' _________________ Britland as dubbed by AsA

She definitely has too much pride to be a mascot.
Also, while we've seen Fel turn into a dragon, we've never seen her breathe fire. Does she even have that ability? If not, Nan may yet escape having to become the Guard's portable s’more maker.
And while we're on the subject, when the heck did Nan become Wolverine? _________________ Mors Certa, Vita Incerta.

...on the subject of using the Siderean powers... Two theories:
1. Maybe the threat of losing someone close to her made her lash out with them.
2. Maybe Richard betrayed her in some way, either personally (hey, Tehmel's too young to like him the way Nan might...) or as a former member of the Guard. Notice she doesn't knock HIM back with the power, just the rock.
Just thoughts.
....................
Does purple HAVE to be Fel's same stone? There are only so many plain colors, but thousands of shades. Maybe it's not the same.
Or maybe the colors of Nan's stones correspond to the members of the guard, and each one allows her to channel some of their power when they're near, too-- notice she uses the yellow stone quite a bit in the opening scene.
And did you notice how Skogul can sense her, and how both of their eyes glow? Maybe she's channeling Skogul's power type then. |

I think Nan has a personal grudge against all mandragoras... Look at how she reacted to Tristam's presence, and he isn't one of the worst, if the redux is similar to the old version for Trist's tale. _________________ Dubbed Cube by Asa

| I wouldn't go so far as to say a grudge... But she certainly seems to think that since they work for Bel, they chose to do so of their own volition. She turned Bel down/fought him off, and they did not. So I'm presuming she considers them weak-willed and cowardly at the very least, so may be it's more contempt than a grudge? We'll soon find out at this point. |
