BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I knew I'd find my old account eventually. >D (This is Its_Chris_The_Dude, or otherwise known as Chan).
Anywho. Would all of our characters be for Earthsong, or would we be able to make some Mandragoras? I enjoy being a bad guy every once in a while.
And I totally call dibs on making a gnome. |

Ah well... I'll just sit out November, and if it's still up (given my rotten luck) I'll see if I can intro myself in some way (or otherwise intro myself in October and lurk till November). _________________ Dubbed Pants by AsA, via the way of the electric pants. |

We'll be watching this with great interest, but not participating (even if teh Lady hadn't already capped the players). We're trying to get to a state where we can suffer a loss of webternet without significant consequences, and joining more RPs is not the way to go about that.
Can provide aid where it is needed, though. If it isn't, then so much the better. _________________ You can't look dignified when you're having fun.

This would be an interesting way to split up this long list of players. Half of the players could be playing Guard while half play Mandrags, with some nice overlap. =o |

I don't think we've had an RP before where playing a villainous/evil aligned character was an option, but it certainly might be an interesting experiment. If Mandragoras turn out not to be an option, we could split the list into two teams of Haven's Guard assigned to different areas ie near the badlands or along the Abdite Mountains. _________________ Bernard [about the job]: The pay's not great, but the work is hard.

Having a team of Mandragora player characters might be interesting...
But I think it's not a good idea for the Game Mistress to give up control of of her villains.
If both sides of the conflict are represented by players, it ought to become a lot more difficult to keep the plot on course as planned... _________________

And if there are PC's on both sides, we'd either have lots of battles where no one can die or a constant need for new characters. _________________ ...In accordance with the prophesy.

Long ago, before the Dawn of the Internet,* I participated in some RPGs through the eerily half-formed UI of an Internet precursor.** In one of those RPGs we had a policy that certain players could temporarily possess one of the villains in order to introduce a plot twist, new material, or sometimes just to spend some time deepening the villain's character. Those villains were technically NPCs, but there was tacit agreement that they would survive any encounter with the good guys, unless substantial groundwork had been laid in advance, such that the plot really required the death of the villain.
It worked out pretty well; we all got to play nasties occasionally, and I don't think we ever actually sacrificed any of those villains on the Altar of the Plot.*** It did however occasion at least one rather unpleasant dispute when two people with vested interests in a single evil NPC had different ideas about which way to take the character.
On the other hand, we didn't have an overarching plot or a designated GM, and I don't think any of us had heard the terms PC or NPC at that point. One of us just started a story and invited others to play. If we're doing a more structured RPG with a GM type person who has a definite end-point in mind, then the shared-control of villains approach probably wouldn't work.
Ah, good times. Speaking of which I really ought to go send an email to Princess Rina, with whom I'm still in contact after all this time, if a tad intermittently.
* Call it 1993.
** That would be Prodigy.
*** We got close once with a cruel and rather vicious young lady named Dalein, but eventually consigned her to an enchanted sleep lasting a hundred years instead. Then we found we missed her too much, and we wound up doing a plot re-set -- we injured two of the existing PCs (Phoenix and Ryumyo) so severely that there was no way to save them other than a hundred year sleep. Then we skipped the timeline forward a hundred years to when Dalein, Phoenix, and Ryumyo were just waking up. Everyone else had to give up their characters and start from scratch. A drastic move, but it gave the RPG another year of life. _________________ Keeper of The Remnant Minuon (cognomen Lucy, the Eaten One) and the Emissary Caeli |
