Members sections bother me to, especially considering how many of us don't have paypal, or credit cards.
@Teressa: I like the idea of this thread.
The idea of creating an additional page per every $100 donated is a good idea.
Something that I think is going to be a problem though is going to be the fan base. It's not that it's not large, but not large enough. That's been noted in several ideas now,... and I think it will be noted in several more. Perhaps we could do something to remedy this now, to a slight extent, to help in the future with further ideas?
I propose that Lady make a banner/button that we could get the HTML codes for, that would link directly to ES. The idea behind this is that the forum members, and other fans, could add these banners and buttons to our Myspace Pages, personal websites, and whatever else we have.
In the long term, it may help with some fan base issues that we've ran into with other ideas. In the short term, it would allow us to acheive a larger fan base in the now (even if it's a slight increase). More People = More Donations. (?) |

I think The Lady already has those -- down at the bottom of the "Links" page. _________________ ...In accordance with the prophesy.

Such banners exist, at the bottom of this page.

I'd buy resin figures. I already want to buy any Sarah Ellerton does for her comic and I've already got Richard from Looking for Group (Richard is *very* spiffy btw.)
But, in any case I know that I'd love to be able to download the rest of Earthsong in high quality format like from WOWIO.
It would be great if you could set up a way to do it on your own for your readers, a small charge per download with a bit of extra content as an incentive.
I know I wouldnt mind paying a small fee to get some extra goodies, wallpapers just dont do it for me so I dont usually donate for them, I prefer to make my own wallpapers.
I'm also a fan of like "Limited Edition" things. *is such a geek* I have the DS9 limited edition box set. If it says "Limited Edition" on it, i'd be all over it
I'm rambling now, I should stop _________________ ~Earthsong RPG number 1 fan girl and fanclub member

I tried to put up one of Earthsong's banners in my dA journal, but the coding didn't like me...
I'm going to see if I can figure out how to make that work, so I can start spamming it on every other site I have an account with, too. _________________ I do commissions!

LOL... too true. I would LOVE babysitting for the wee monster. I'll just ship him over to England, 'kay?
As for linking, please feel free - it's always appreciated. But please do host the images somewhere else rather than just direct linking me - it kills mah bandwidth otherwise. _________________ Keeper of Nanashi's Vambraces and the Amethyst Trees.

I see the banners you refer to, but where's the HTML that I could copy and paste into my website?

@devil: Ninja just refers to someone saying what you were intending to say first. You weren't ninja'd, Tamir was by Thebes.
| Code: | | <a href="www.earthsongsaga.com"><img src=/banner.jpeg"></img></a> |
I have no idea if the /img is necessary, as it's been about three years since I touched HTML by hand. The rest should work fine. All you have to do is host the /banner.jpeg file yourself somewhere and link to that instead of the file on ES.
Happy coding! _________________ . Dubbed "Usagi" by AsA .

The </img> is not necessary. It's good form to always close your tags, it's true. But with an element like IMG, which is always replaced with the linked file rather than showing textual content, the convention is to close the tag like this:
| Code: | | <img src="/banner.jpg" /> |
Note the space and the closing slash right before the closing angle bracket.
I strongly, strongly recommend that you add ALT text to any image that you link to! Like this:
| Code: | | <img src="/banner.jpg" alt="Earthsong" /> |
This won't make a visible change in the appearance of the file, but it's important for two reasons:
- If there is no alt text, blind people who are listening to the page be read aloud by a screen reader will be treated to a full recitation of the image's location. That is, it'll spell out http://www.whatever.com/path/to/banner.jpg. Nobody wants to listen to that. And if the image is also a link, it means that the blind person will have no idea where the link actually goes.
But if there is ALT text available, the screen reader will read that aloud instead.
- Google is blind. The programs it uses to automatically index images cannot "see" the content of the image, and so they rely on the ALT text to provide a brief description of the image. If there's no ALT text, the image will probably NOT show up in Google Image search.
If you wanted to get really fancy, you could also add a title attribute. Like this:
| Code: | | <img src="/banner.jpg" alt="Earthsong" title="Visit Earthsong, a web comic by Lady Yates!" /> |
Again, this won't actually change the basic visual appearance of the image. But hold your mouse over it for a moment. A little box will pop up with the title text in it, which gives you a handy way to add "tool tips" to any image or link. These are also useful for blind people -- they can have their screen reader read the title text aloud after it's done with the alt text, which gives them even more info about where a link goes before deciding whether to follow it.
So the full code would be:
| Code: | | <a href="http://www.earthsongsaga.com/"><img src="/banner.jpg" alt="Earthsong" title="Visit Earthsong, a web comic by Lady Yates!" /></a> |
Put a copy of the image file on your own server, change the SRC to point to that file, and away you go. _________________ Keeper of The Remnant Minuon (cognomen Lucy, the Eaten One) and the Emissary Caeli |

Lady, have you ever considered the GINORMOUS potential bidding war that awaits on eBay for a signed copy of the fabled original version of Earthsong?
It could be epic. Everyone keeps hearing about the original ES, and only a lucky handful have seen the pages.
I know you want to keep those pages hidden, but oi, I'm sure a lot of people would clamour to see the long lost comic. _________________ My printer thinks it's some kinda guitar hero because it won't stop jamming.

I might be alone on this but I collect art by webcomic artisits and I'd love a sketch (an actual sketch, not a digital image) by Lady Yates. I'd climb over my Grandmother to buy one. _________________ Britland as dubbed by AsA
