I actually had the chance to meet Brendan Hansen, Aaron Piersol, Ian Crocker, and Michael Phelps. Phelps is pretty nice--he's just a really big, goofy kid. _________________ Keeper of Zaebos' and Jormand's powers.

No way, nuh uh, I am way too jealous about that one. But you know, I always did get the "one giant kid" vibe from him when I saw him on TV. That's amazing that you met all of them though!
Anybody see the tie today between the Chinese gymnast whose name eludes me and Nastia? I know she already has the all around gold and there's no sense in being greedy, but that whole "tie-breaker" thing is downright unfair! _________________ If you're reading this, you haven't quite made it to the next post. |

Now here's an athlete I'm gonna root for:
This is Roqaya Al-Gassra from Bahrain, here shown in the process of winning her qualifying heat for the 200m dash.
As evidenced by this picture, Ms. Al-Gassra has chosen to adhere to her religion's dress code for women without letting it get in the way of her athletic aspirations.
And indeed it didn't seem to get in the way at all: Al-Gassra ran the third best time of all qualifying heats. Perhaps that suit even gave her an aerodynamic advantage?
The participation of female athletes from islamic countries is by itself a vast step into the future, but any actual sucess by these brave women would be absolutely phenomenal.
EDIT: I missed the fact that there are quarterfinals, too.
But Roqaya went through them too, winning her run and scoring 6th in the overall comparison...
Semifinals are tomorrow, Finals on thursday... _________________

How 'bout them tiebreakers?
NBC had a Bella somebody as their advisor/commentator on the gymnastics judging, and he was frothing at the mouth about it. Even I, someone with no expertise in the matter at all, could figure out that it just didn't make any sense. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^
