Pretty much every spare moment I have (which isn't much right now) is spent hunting for Olympic coverage.
I have to say that TV stations drive me crazy with their coverage. I don't want to see JUST the Chinese, American and the Canadian meets. I don't really blame them for this approach, but I don't really enjoy it either. But I DO love the fact that so many stations are live streaming the video so that I can see the events that don't get any prime time coverage.
I love watching gymnastics, diving, and a few of the track n field sports. Football continues to bore me however.
And what is up with the Canadian athletes? We haven't won a single metal yet!
And I apologise to all the yankees on the forum but I hope China beats you for metals... just 'cause! _________________ Keeper of Nanashi's Vambraces and the Amethyst Trees.

I managed to see the dressage and women's archery finals in the airport yesterday, which was GREAT because those are two of my favorite sports! I was so excited, and following it so closely, and the other people in the bar/cafe (who were also watching it) had no idea why I was so excited. ^_~

Asa: do you mean dressage?
Corsage is a bit different...
Lady: have you tried the BBC online? I think they have a fairly decent selection of live events and clip coverage, although, of course, there will tend to be something of a british bent...
In other news, I decided that boycotting was a pretty futile gesture. I'm watching when I've nothing better to do, and pleased to know that the UK has won only its 5th EVER womens solo swimming gold. _________________ Keeper of Tristram's rings, and Felucca's very expressive ears. |

I have not yet tried BBC online. I'll check it out tonight as I've pretty much given entirely up on the TV coverage. I spent a good chunk of last night yelling at the TV.
It's absolutely maddening to sit there having to watch Michael Phelps stand around waiting for his meet to start while there's gymnastics or any other sport going on.
Anyhow, I DID get to see a bit of white water kayaking... I had no idea this was an Olympic sport! _________________ Keeper of Nanashi's Vambraces and the Amethyst Trees.

I watched the kayaking today--didn't know it was a sport either! I had to figure out that the red poles they circled and the green poles they passed. _________________ Keeper of Zaebos' and Jormand's powers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_sports
BMX is one of the new Olympic sports. A lot of the less hyped sports are fascinating. Kayaking is awesome, as is archery, the horse events, and rowing. Squee's really more of a Winter Olympics fan though.
The annoying thing is that this is the last year they'll be doing baseball and softball. They're taking them on a hiatus from the Olympics for a while. Not sure why.
An interesting factoid: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wushu_(sport) will be at this year's Olympics, but will not be an official sport. |

I heard bmx was getting in, but i didn't quite believe it. I'm not quite sure whether to be pleased or slightly weirded out that some of the much newer extreme sports might get in - it would certainly draw the younger crowds of things like skateboarding, blading, parkour, BMX etc were added, but i'm not quite sure they're 'legitimate' enough sports IYSWIM... _________________ Keeper of Tristram's rings, and Felucca's very expressive ears. |

Weird. I'll have to see if I can catch some of it.
China is certainly cleaning up, eh? I just saw them take the Men's individual all around in gymnastics. I had the tv on and two live streaming videos too XD
I really do wish they would show more of the "less popular" events on tv rather than filling up their time with athletes standing around, or worse, those horrible little vingettes about their star athlete's life story.

I tend to be most interested in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies-but I've been watching the water polo closely. I'm cheering for Spain and the United States, and thankfully Spain crushed Canada-but when they went against Australia, I almost died. But Spain won the day by one point! Only to lose rather badly to Hungary. Grr. They still have Greece and Montenegro, though, so there's still a chance.
The US got beaten by Serbia, of all people. Won two matches, though, so we'll see how they push through. *crosses fingers* _________________ I love children...but I could never eat a whole one.

How did the women's all-around gymnastics go? I was watching it and RIGHT BEFORE the meet started, I was called to dinner. >.< By the time I made it back to the tv, beach volleyball had started, so I don't know the results at all. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^
